My sister called this week to tell me that she had to put her nineteen year old cat, Chin-Lee, to sleep. It's unbelievable that he'd been around since 1985...the Soviet Union was still an Evil Empire, New Coke came out followed closely by Coke Classic, the Titanic was located, we watched Breakfast Club and Back to the Future while listening to Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas and USA for Africa's We Are The World...and I was a lifeguard and freshman in college. Chin-Lee was a great cat. One of the five fastest land animals in his youth and one of the orneriest cats in his old age.
One of the funniest stories was one time when my sister got Chin-Lee a new cat pan. He proceeded to stand in it, stare at my sister, put his butt over the edge and poop on the carpet...making it abundantly clear that he didn't approve of the new pan. This continued until my sister retrieved the old pan from the garbage. Eventually, she solved the dilemma by putting old filthy poop-filled litter in the new pan and slowly changing out the old litter for new over the course of a few days. Chin-Lee will certainly be missed.

Let's see 1985, I was in fifth grade...the cat was beautiful. My favorite kind of cat. I'm sure he is in a better place. My condolences to your sister and you, I'm sure he will be missed.
Wow! 1985... it's so nice to be able to have a pet around for that long. We just lost one of our cat's this summer. He was 15 and we adopted him from the pound three months after my husband and I were married. I sympathies to your sister and her family... Chin-Lee is probably hanging out with Stripes, sunning themselves without a care in the world - kind of like what they did in life, huh.
(BTW - got here from Blog Explosion)

Wow. 19 years is a long time for a cat to share his life with you. This will certainly leave a big hole in your own life. My sympathies.
Sorry to hear about the cat. He must have been a great companion for so many years. I hope you don't take offense to this, but in this picture, the cat looks like an old man. Do you see it? I kind of chuckled at that.
I recently lost my cat of 14 years. Tigger. I got him when I was 10 years old. It was my birthday, I was taking a bath and he had walked into the house and right into the bathroom. Just an old tom cat. Best cat you could ever find. Never attacked anyone, even as a kitten. Would jump into anyone's lap and love 'em. I miss that damn cat.
I am so sorry. We had to put our cat to sleep a couple years back. It is very hard. And he had lived a very long life...They are like family aren't they?
hugs to your sister
