A day in the life...Web Rings
< ? # > ameriBLOGs
Drew's Aunt Donelda was in town visiting this weekend and so was the Akdar Shrine Circus. So, off we went to the Tulsa Fairgrounds.
The day provided a number of firsts...it was Drew's first circus, Drew's first taste of cotton candy and Drew and Daddy's first elephant ride.

The circus was nothing less than amazing. There was everything you'd expect from a three ring circus from clowns, acrobats and jugglers to animal trainers and death defying performers high up in the big top (or in this case Tulsa Fairgrounds Pavilion). The acts also included many lions, tigers, bears, camels, horses, ponies and dogs.
There were so many acts, sometimes in all three rings at once, that I couldn't begin to name them all. Incredibly, only one act, the trapeze, used a net despite many performers being high above the cement floor when they entertained the crowd.
With intermission, the performance lasted three hours and gave us all plenty to talk about afterwards.

I remember taking the kids to this circus when we lived in Tulsa. Some of the clowns were scary because they were not wearing whiteface, they were just so old they had no pigment in their skin.
It was a lot of fun. My kids got to ride the elephant. My favorite was "Cousin Grumpy & the Porkchop Reveue" It was a pig act. hee hee
When I went to the shrine circus there was a(n) OVERSIZE AND OVERWEIGHT PIG WHOSE NAME WAS LEPRECHAUN. IT HURT ME TO SEE THIS PIG. IT COULDNT EVEN MOVE. THE ONLY PART OF ITS BODY IT COULD MOVE WAS ITS HEAD..
circuses are disgusting and not something we should be supporting at all.

I can't believe it took so long to attract a PETA nut. Especially, when there are actually very good arguments to made against circuses such as the Shrine.
Of course, the arguments aren't as good as animals are tasty!!!

People Eating Tasty Animals
Hello! my name is Nicole and i stumbled across your web page and saw the pictures of the elephants. You see my father is the elephant trainer. I love the pictures and was wondering if you had any others. I would love to hear more about them!
Hope a had a great time at the circus!
Nicole
I noticed that you had a picture of you and your son riding an elephant. While you were up there, did you notice the cuts and bruises? The sad, lonely eyes? Did the elephants look happy and natural when they were doing obscure tricks in the ring? They are not meant to be in circuses. Those animals are meant to be in the wild. I am suprised that you didn't catch the trainers beating the animals with bull hoooks and eletric prods. Don't go to the circus. It is so obviously cruel.
I'm from People for the Ethical Treatments of People (PETP), and I was greatly disturbed by Ashley's comment, mentioning a pig so fat it couldn't move it's body. Well, my eyes were fixed on the overweight lady holding a plastic bag of spun sugar which she stuffs into the poor little kid. He'll weight just as much as her in only a few years, and other people worry about animals? What's really the sickest?
