This Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 6:00/7:00 p.m., the History Channel is airing its one hour documentary Act of Honor about the hero Sgt. Rafael Peralta.
The History Channel's summary:
On November 15, 2004, Sgt. Rafael Peralta died while fighting to secure a key insurgent stronghold in Iraq. Peralta and fellow Marines were ambushed by guerillas who then lobbed a grenade at them. Already seriously wounded, Peralta shielded his companions by covering the explosive device with his body, saving their lives and sacrificing his own. Watch Peralta's extraordinary journey from Tijuana, Mexico to San Diego to the streets of Iraq. Included are interviews with his widowed mother and three siblings in San Diego.

I urge you to watch and learn about a true hero, a Marine, an American.
For more information see my posts which include many comments by Sgt. Rafael Peralta's family and friends:

Thank you for letting us know...
I cross-posted at my blog.
I watched the show today, and it was amazing. It brought back a lot of memories from Sgt. Peralta. He's a great man! Much love to his family and friends.
Where's his MEDAL? It is long overdue........
It is my understanding that awarding of the Medal of Honor to Sgt. Rafael Peralta is "under consideration." In other words, it is supposedly working its way along and, as yet, not determined whether it will be awarded or not.
Where is this hero's medal? This guy gave it all for his team and his nation, why is our country so slow in recognizing his sacrifice. This is a travesty. It is this kind of thing that leads people to believe that there is prejudice against Latinos in the US. I have already written an email to the Mayor of San Diego saying that this hero needs to be remembered in a very special way by this city. He was so much a part of this city and his heroism is something this city should always be proud of.
Never forget this Marine. He is someone that all of us can always be proud of. Humble in life, dynamic in memory.
I am a former Marine officer and Iraq war veteran (Feb-Sept 2004). After my tour, I left the Marines to become a writer. In 2006, I wrote a book about enlisted Marines in Iraq called "Blood Stripes." Currently, I am working on a book about the U.S.-Mexico border.
In my book about the border, I would like to write about Sgt Peralta -- his life story, his family, and his heroism. I attempted to contact the producer at the History Channel of the documentary at the number posted on an earlier thread. Unfortunately, Ms. Wurthmann no longer works there, and no one at A&E could offer any assistance.
If anyone reads this and has any contact information for family/friends of Sgt Peralta, or his fellow Marines, please email me at danelo@dynamisventures.com.
Thanks very much.
