Tonight we enjoyed some sparklers left over from our celebration of the 4th of July. Drew is making a big circle with a more modern sparkler. Notice how the sparks flying off are different at their ends than the old fashioned ones in the next two photos. The first three photos are each 1 second exposure.
Drew with an old fashioned metal sparkler, which supposedly burns at a higher temperature, making some crazy circles.
Finally, Drew with the same old fashioned sparkler making small circles.
I really love this photo I took of myself holding a sparkler. Canon 500D, f/2.8, 1/6 sec., ISO-100.
The same photo enlarged.
Finally, the full native resolution of the same photo. Pretty cool. I had no idea before hand how well it would turn out.

I found your blog on the Blog Oklahoma ring by hitting the random link. I'm finding many interesting blogs and yours stopped me because of the fireworks photography.
In my younger days, I played around with a completely manual SLR (I've even forgotten the brand). I had a light meter that was my constant companion for indoor photography.
Anyway, I'm delving back into photography again with a Canon Powershot digital camera. It is fully automatic, but you can manually set ISO, f-stop and shutter speed either independently or prioritize f-stop or shutter speed and leave the other auto.
I see you showed your camera settings on the photos and given me some good ideas to play around with. The good thing about digital vs. film is it doesn't cost anything to experiment.
I've bookmarked your blog.
